“Cloud First” Should Not Mean “Cost Last”
Cloud platforms are powerful.
They make infrastructure flexible, scalable, and fast to provision. They also make it easy to spend money invisibly.
That is the uncomfortable side of cloud adoption.
A poorly designed system can run. It can scale. It can also produce a bill that nobody expected.
Architecture decisions now need cost awareness from the start.
How much data are we moving?
How often does this function run?
What is retained?
What is duplicated?
What must be real-time?
What can be batch processed?
What can be archived?
Cost is not only a finance concern. It is an architecture concern.
The best cloud systems are not just scalable. They are economically understandable.
A system that works technically but cannot be afforded operationally is not a success.
